Welcome to my website. I hope you will find something of interest and possibly  help in your amateur radio pursuits. I’m an avid DXer. The pinnacle of my DX endeavors has been the ultimate success of the KP1-5 Project’s activation of Desecheo (K5D, 2009) and Navassa Island (K1N, 2015). This capped off an almost 20-year dream that I and others on the Project had.  Now, needing only one (P5) to achieve #1 Honor Roll, I now chase RTTY-DX to fill the hours. That has now lead me to RTTY contesting which has also become a passion.  We live on a normal city lot so big antennas and amps are not in the cards; so, I focus on station ergonomics in an attempt to be more competitive. You can see more about that by clicking the Station tab.

The picture below was taken at the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). It was around midnight. At sundown that evening a pack of coyotes came off their den about a 1/2-mile away. They howled for a while then began to move.  I could occasionally hear them as they broke into what sounded to be 2 or 3 hunting packs. Just before this picture was taken, I heard something just outside the light of the camp. I grabbed my flashlight. As I scanned the perimeter, all I saw were pairs of yellow eyes. It was them; probably about 6-8, maybe 10. They circled but stayed just outside the light and never came in. After around 30-minutes they left. I suppose, their curiosity was satisfied and luckily I didn’t smell like a rabbit or something else on their menu! You can see more about my various  NWR operations by clicking the National Wildlife Refuge tab.

Enjoy your time here and I hope to work you on the bands.

Diddle-Diddle!

73 es Blessings,

Mike, NA5U/K5D/K1N/W5NWR
